For over 100 years Optimist International has seen to the betterment of children and their communities. Through the volunteer efforts of millions of people, the world in which they live is made a better place. Optimist communities in Canada sponsor a wide range of activities through trying to find a cure for childhood cancer through the Childhood Cancer Campaign to conducting oratorical and essay contests for young people.

As Members of Optimist Clubs, individuals have the opportunity to "Bring Out the Best in Kids" along with other like-minded citizens. As an Optimist member, there are many volunteer opportunities to answer the needs of local youth by organizing meaningful service projects.
A legacy of Unplug & PLaY Week has been the installation of PlayBoxes in community parks - 6 to date.
