frequently asked questions

What is the deadline for entering?

The deadline for submitting entries is Jan. 23, 2022.

What kinds of photos should I submit?

Send us your best original photographs. Anything that incorporates or embraces that selected theme is perfect for this contest. Clear, simple photos of your subject are great, but let your imagination go wild!

What size should my photo be?

All entries must be 9 megabytes or smaller in size, in JPG or JPEG format, and at least 600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 600 pixels tall (if a vertical image).

How many photos can I enter?

Each Entrant can submit up to two (2) images per theme category. An Entrant however may only have one photo selected as a finalist.

Will all submitted photos be placed in the Contest Galley on the website?

It is our intent to place all photos in the Contest gallery after they have been checked for content suitability.

Should I provide a caption or description of my photo?

Descriptions are a great way to interest others in your photographs. Please tell us briefly about your picture, we call this the “Story of your photograph”. Where did you take it? How did you get the shot?

Do photo entries have to be shot with a digital camera?

Your digital entries do not have to be created with a digital camera. They can be from your phone or scans of negatives. They must be submitted in a digital jpeg format. They must be your very own original photographs.

Where do I find the rules and and how to enter?

See bottom of page.

What if I win?

 If you are our winner:

1. Please be prepared to send us the original digital image of your winning photograph.

2. We will prepare and forward you a mounted enlargement of your photo (matching the submitted file size).

3. We will feature your photo at a public exhibit in Vernon, BC.

4. We will forward a mounted enlargement of your winning photo to your school (if attending)

Who can I contact for more information?

Send your questions to optimistphotocontest@gmail.com
